Student Kris Berg Selected as a 2025 Promising Practitioner by NASW-MA

Kris Berg (SSW, MPH ‘27), a dual degree student at BU School of Social Work and BU School of Public Health, has received the Promising Practitioner Award for 2025 from the NASW Massachusetts Chapter.  The award is given to BSW and MSW students in the Commonwealth who exhibit distinguishable academic and field work reflected by the Council of Social Work Education’s (CSWE) core competencies and practice behaviors.  

The award criteria include: 

  • Identifies as a professional social worker and conducts oneself accordingly and applies social work ethical principles to guide professional practice 
  • Applies critical thinking to inform and communicate professional judgments 
  • Engages diversity and difference in practice 
  • Advances human rights and social and economic justice 
  • Engages in research-informed practice and practice-informed research 
  • Applies knowledge of human behavior and the social environment 
  • Engages in policy practice to advance social and economic well-being and to deliver effective social work services 
  • Responds to contexts that shape practice.  
  • Engages, assesses, intervenes, and evaluates with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities 

Previously, Kris received the Graduate Outstanding Service Award, as one of BU’s Student Employees of the Year, and has been recognized for their LGBTQIA+ activism
