In a new memoir titled “Singlehandedly: Learning to Unhide and Embrace Connection,” alumna Ruth Rathblott (SSW’94) shares her story of coming to terms with her limb difference. The book documents her transformative journey from hiding her disability to finding self-acceptance – and shows readers how to do the same.

On her website, Rathblott says, “I want to build a world where disability – the visible and the invisible – are no longer missing from the diversity agenda. I believe that we start by getting comfortable with our own differences first.” She adds that she hopes the book will show readers how to own their differences, find community, and build a more accepting and inclusive world.

Released in fall 2022, the book is available now on Amazon.

Rathblott, who earned her MSW from Boston University School of Social Work in 1994, is an inspirational speaker, author, and executive coach and consultant. She has been featured in The New York Times, GeekWire, and The Harlem Times, and presented at TEDx Dupree Park, Facebook, Sony, Paramount, and numerous other companies and organizations. Rathblott spent 25 years in the non-profit sector as an award-winning CEO and leader before shifting her focus to disability advocacy and consulting.
