Prof. Lee’s Research Featured in Congressional Materials

As part of BU’s advocacy on Capitol Hill, BU Federal Relations develops materials for Congress that demonstrate how the University utilizes federal funding. Their website serves as a resource for members of Congress and their staff to learn how the University’s research and programs help their constituents. To encourage support for the National Institutes for Health (NIH), they selected the novel work of BU School of Social Work (BUSSW) Professor Christina Lee. Funded by a $3.3 million NIH grant, Prof. Lee’s research embeds cultural awareness in addiction treatment. Focused on the Latinx community, she developed a clinical approach to treating substance use based on Motivational Interviewing, accounting for social stressors and cultural influences. Her five-year study is a first in testing the integration of culturally responsive addiction treatment into primary care.
