Michaela Cook’s (’13) Social Work Story

By Michaela Cook (’13)

I am a social worker because ….. I lost the love of my life in 2003 to suicide at the age of 23. Through my own experiences with loss, grief, depression, traumatic life changes, I have found the strength to turn my experiences into hope, compassion and understanding for those who battle mental health issues on a daily basis. For those who know me well I get very animated and excited about advocating for our clients, families, and the well being of all of us …. 😉 #passion

So on this Day 2 of Social Work Month I am Thankful for the hard work and dedication that I have experienced with all of my clients, families and colleagues as we help the teens in our programs navigate this wild world that we live in today.

We are all the product of our experiences, relationships, tragedies and life events. At the end of the day we are all alike than we are unalike. Thank you and have a wonderful day, don’t forget to Thank a Social Worker!
