When white nationalist ideologies become embedded in government policy, it threatens the foundations of democracy, equality, and human rights. In a Medium article, Prof. Phillipe Copeland from BU School of Social Work argues that the Trump administration has adopted policies aligning with white nationalist ideologies. He also describes why common tactics like mainstreaming are so effective.

Excerpt from “White Nationalism Is Becoming U.S. Policy” by Phillipe Copeland:

quotation markIn 2017, White Nationalists rallied in Charlottesville, Virginia. They marched through the night with torches, chanting “Jews will not replace us.” Rather than condemn rally organizers unequivocally, then President Trump claimed there were “very fine people” on both sides. This hateful and violent event culminated in the murder of an antiracist protester.

Eight years later, the White House has welcomed White South Africans as “refugees”, under claims they face “genocide”. This false claim is rooted in the very same “Great Replacement” narrative that motivated the hatred and violence in Charlottesville. The administration’s embrace of White South Africans is particularly outrageous as it tries to ban refugees from virtually everywhere else. It is the latest example of how White Nationalism is becoming U.S. policy. Think I am exaggerating? Let me explain.”
