Dean Hosts Culture Exchange with Social Work Educators from China’s Henan Normal University

May 29, 2018 — Four visitors from China’s Henan Normal University (HNU) arrived in Boston Tuesday morning to meet with Dean Jorge Delva and other top administrators from Boston University’s School of Social Work (BUSSW) to discuss BU’s model of professional social work training.
The four visitors, who are pioneering the Chinese province of Henan’s first and only Masters of Social Work (MSW) program, reached out to BUSSW for guidance as they navigate the demands of providing a graduate social work education to HNU students.
While HNU established its Social Work Department fifteen years ago, the recent push for practice-focused professional education led the school to supplement its Bachelor of Laws offering with an MSW beginning this year.
In addition to Delva, Associate Dean for Enrollment Services and External Relations Ken Schulman and Assistant Dean for Off-Campus and Online Programs Mena daSilva-Clark also took part in the dialogue between BUSSW and HNU, lending important insights about the initiatives that make BU’s stellar social work programs flourish.
