Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW) has expanded its successful Cape Cod MSW program to feature a blended in-person/online format beginning in 2021. The application cycle for the graduate program, which is offered every other year, will open in Sept. 2023.

The expanded Cape program offers a Clinical major plus two track options (Traditional and Human Services Experience), ensuring that each student’s graduate program is tailored to their academic and professional experience. Field internships are conducted within the student’s geographic area of choice.

Students will enroll in in-person courses for fall and spring semesters at Cape Cod Community College in Barnstable, Massachusetts for a total of six semesters. The two summer semesters will be held online and include 1 to 1.5 hours of Live Classroom sessions (BU’s online platform) per week.

Longtime program director Deb Berglin says, “For students, the online component will allow those whose livelihood is dependent on the busy Cape Cod summer season to attend virtual class only 1 to 1.5 hours per week – instead of Friday nights and Saturday mornings per the previous schedule – freeing them up during the weekend when many seasonal businesses depend on available staff.”

“BUSSW has more than thirty years of off-campus teaching experience using a cohort model of graduate education that brings our top-ranked BUSSW curriculum to students at three Massachusetts locations in addition to the Cape – Bedford, Fall River and Worcester. Due to increased demand on the Cape, we have redesigned the program to make it more flexible and expansive. We are excited to offer this new option to the Cape Cod community,” says Assistant Dean for Off-Campus & Online Programs Mena daSilva-Clark.

BUSSW dean Jorge Delva stated: “Like so many communities, Cape Cod is working hard to address the often-overwhelming need for social work services. We’ve heard the call and are committed to expanding our Cape program so we can bring a rigorous curriculum, practical research and field placement opportunities to more local students. We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Cape Cod, its surrounding towns, and our peers in public service organizations who share our dedication to creating healthy communities.”
