BRIDGE Graduation on Dec. 3rd Features Julia Mejia, Boston City Councilor at-Large, as Speaker
BUSSW celebrates the achievements of the school’s five newest BRIDGE Program graduates on December 3rd at a special ceremony featuring Boston City Councilor at-large Julia Mejia as the guest speaker.
Mejia, who grew up in Dorchester after her family emigrated from the Dominican Republic, is a social justice advocate and founder and CEO of the Collaborative Parent Leadership Action Network. According to her website, Mejia’s professional and political life are “driven by a lifelong pursuit of justice and equity.”
Like Mejia, the BRIDGE students hail from immigrant families or are immigrants themselves. This year’s students and their families come from the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Mexico, Haiti and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China. For these students, the BRIDGE Program – which prepares first and second-generation immigrant and refugee students to apply to MSW programs – is the final step before they apply for graduate school.
