3/5: The Cultural Betrayal of Black Women & Girls with Prof. Gómez

Join BUSSW Prof. Jennifer M. Gómez and award-winning author Koritha Mitchell for a reading and discussion of Gómez’s book, “The Cultural Betrayal of Black Women & Girls: A Black Feminist Approach to Healing from Sexual Abuse.”
 
Following an introduction to cultural betrayal trauma theory (CBTT) and a brief reading from her book, Gómez will join Mitchell in a conversation about her work. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in the discussion. A reception with light refreshments will follow. The first 15 people to RSVP will receive a free signed copy of Prof. Gómez’s book at the event!

Jennifer M. Gómez

Prof. Jennifer M. Gómez is a Black feminist trauma researcher, critical race scholar, and former Ford Fellow who developed CBTT to examine how oppression shapes the impact of violence on marginalized individuals and communities. She is an assistant professor at Boston University School of Social Work and a faculty affiliate at the School’s Center for Innovation in Social Work & Health. 

Koritha Mitchell

Koritha Mitchell is an award-winning author, cultural critic, and professional development expert. She is a professor of English at Ohio State University and visiting professor of English at Boston University.
