Two factors led me to pursue a career in Social Work. First, for the last two years I have worked as a Peer Specialist, which is someone with a mental health diagnosis who helps others with mental health diagnoses in their recovery process. I chose to become a social worker in order to offer a more holistic approach to the people with whom I work. The other reason I am pursuing social work is that, in addition to my background in clinical work, I have experience working with nonprofits and advocating for mental health at a state level. I would like to hone my advocacy skills so that I can fight effectively for the many people with mental health diagnoses who feel they are voiceless. I chose BUSSW because of its great reputation and because I feel the program really fits my needs. The Clinical Practice major with a Macro Practice minor offers me the opportunity to pursue both of my passions and graduate with a well rounded skill set. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my son, acting in theater, and going to the movies.
