Lenette Azzi-Lessing, a professor at BU School of Social Work, is co-editor of a new book about child neglect, inequity and poverty published by the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA).

According to CWLA, the book is a resource for those working with children and families experiencing neglect that will help “broaden understanding of the underlying causes of child neglect and [set] forth innovative responses.”

Titled “Child Neglect, Inequity, and Poverty: Contextual Issues and Implications,” the book focuses on public child welfare, economic and racial justice issues, policymaking, and global issues, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Azzi-Lessing co-edited the book alongside fellow child welfare experts Katharine Briar-Lawson and Priscilla Day.

Lenette Azzi-Lessing is a clinical professor, chair of the macro social work department, and coordinator of the children, youth and families specialization at BU School of Social Work. Her work focuses on improving the wellbeing and opportunities for vulnerable children and families, particularly those living in poverty and those involved in the child protective system. She is a senior fellow at the Child Welfare League of America and author of “Behind from the Start: How America’s War on the Poor is Harming Our Most Vulnerable Children,” among numerous other publications.
