First Thursdays | Self-Care in an Over-Burdened Life

  • Starts: 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 4, 2025
  • Ends: 9:00 pm on Thursday, December 4, 2025
Social workers have a professional obligation to care for themselves so that they can continue to be effective and compassionate resources for others. As social work students, the task of maintaining (or beginning) practices of self-care can seem overwhelming, even impossible, as you manage work, home, family, school, and practicum.

Whether you find the concept of “self-care” to be a worthy, laughable, or irritating one, this experiential workshop may help you consider (or reconsider) ways to take care of yourself while you care for other people and the myriad responsibilities in your life.

We will talk about what stress is and what “good enough” self-care can look like, as well as try out a few short activities. Bring your skepticism, your enthusiasm, your fatigue, and your hope and let’s see what happens.

Open to the BU community.
