Lecturers Rick Cresta & Gary Eager Receive BU Distinguished Service Recognition Award

Rick Cresta and Gary R. Eager, longtime lecturers at BU School of Social Work (BUSSW), recently received the Distinguished Service Recognition award for salaried lecturers based on their outstanding commitment to the Boston University community.

A joint BU committee comprised of three members of the salaried lecturers union and three persons designated by the Provost made the recommendations after an extensive review of all BU salaried lecturers.   

A licensed independent clinical social worker, Rick Cresta has over 25 years of experience working with adolescents and young adults in a variety of settings including schools, residential treatment, and home-based. In addition to his work as a lecturer for the School, he also serves as an advisor for the Charles River Campus Program and the MSW/MPH Dual Degree Program with the BU School of Public Health. Cresta manages a private practice in the Boston area specializing in work with court-involved youth and focuses on substance use, trauma, and violence prevention. He also provides training and consultation to numerous organizations throughout the New England area on substance use and other adolescent and young adult-related issues. Cresta received his MSW and MPH from the School’s social work and public health dual degree program.

Gary Eager, a lecturer and advisor for the Charles River Campus Program, has served on the faculty of BUSSW since 1994 where he has taught courses on Marriage & Family Therapy, Oppression & Racism, Psychological Trauma, Resilience, and Ethics across all three BUSSW program formats. A licensed independent clinical social worker in New Hampshire, Eager also manages a psychotherapy practice, provides clinical supervision, conducts trainings on clinical practice, and serves as a consultant with a variety of agencies throughout the state. He is an active member of the NH Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers where he has served on the board of directors and been an active member of the Clinical Committee; he is a past president of the NH Chapter of the Association for Marriage and Family Therapy; and he has served as a complaints investigator and advisory board member to the NH Board of Mental Health Practice.
