Dr. Jordana Muroff Promoted to Professor at BU School of Social Work

BU School of Social Work (BUSSW) is proud to announce the promotion of Dr. Jordana Muroff to professor. A dedicated researcher-clinician, Muroff’s work focuses on developing evidence-based mental health assessments and interventions. She achieves this through strong community collaborations and technology innovation, with an emphasis on making services more accessible, engaging, and culturally and linguistically responsive.
Dr. Muroff is especially passionate about leveraging evolving technologies to combat health inequities, stigma, and structural oppression. Specifically, her community-engaged research addresses mental health inequities by developing technology-supported interventions for marginalized and underserved populations. For the past 20 years, she has been developing and testing novel individual and group cognitive behavioral interventions as well as assessments for hoarding disorder with her community partners and multidisciplinary collaborators. Over more than ten years, she has led the development and testing of a smartphone relapse prevention tool for Latinx Spanish speakers with substance use disorders with her long-term partnering community agency and scholars. She has also studied the use of innovative simulation-based solutions for workforce development and training.
Dr. Muroff is the lead author of her book, “Group Treatment for Hoarding Disorder: Therapist Guide,” published by Oxford University Press. Her research on mental health and substance use disorders has been featured in leading journals such as the American Journal of Public Health and Depression and Anxiety. Her research has been funded by foundation, state, and federal grants.
At BUSSW, Muroff serves as chair of the Clinical Practice Department. She teaches MSW courses including Clinical Practice with Individuals and an advanced elective in cognitive and behavioral treatment, as well as the doctoral Clinical Research Methods class. She has served as an MSW practicum clinical supervisor for over 15 years in partnership with local housing and mental health organizations. Beyond BU, Dr. Muroff is the editor of the Oxford University Press ABCT Series on Implementation of Clinical Approaches. She is actively involved with the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), including being a past program chair for the ABCT Annual Convention, as well as a Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) Fellow.
