BUSSW Hosts Interactive Workshop on Palliative Care in Oncology for Social Workers
Social workers from around the country joined BU School of Social Work recently for an interactive workshop introducing them to foundational skills in palliative oncology practice, with a focus on interprofessional collaboration, advance care planning, and effective participation in family meetings. The one-day workshop, Educating Social Workers in Palliative & End-of-Life Care – Oncology (ESPEC-O), was led by experts in the field and is grounded in the evidence-based palliative care training initiative.
The workshop highlighted key components from the full ESPEC-O curriculum which demonstrates how health social workers can lead in improving communication, care coordination, and goal-concordant care for people with cancer and other health challenges.
BUSSW is a key academic partner on the newly awarded $1.6 million grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI R25CA298892) that will fund this national training and mentorship initiative. Learn more about the grant here.
