Lecturer Cristina Brinkerhoff from BU School of Social Work (BUSSW) shared her expertise on how collaboration between government and immigrant communities – especially Brazilians – can shape public policy at both city and state levels in a recent presentation at the III International Symposium on Public Policies and Sustainable Development, in Espirito Santo, Brazil. She was joined by Lenita Reason from the Brazilian Worker Center to speak on Intersectorality of Public Policies in Cities.

In her presentation, Brinkerhoff and her colleague shared two examples of effective collaboration between government and community-based organizations: the Family Welcome Center and the Governor’s Advisory Council on Latino Empowerment — illustrating how these models strengthen equity and community well-being across the state.

The international symposium brings together researchers, students, public health professionals, and policymakers to discuss critical issues in public policy and sustainable development.
