Innovate@BU Spotlights MSW Student Jamila Peguero’s Justice-Focused Innovation
Jamila Peguero (SSW’26) was recently featured by Innovate@BU for her work in the Enlight Fellowship, where she created the Care and Justice Network, a growing community for social workers focused on racial justice.
A first-generation college and graduate student at BU School of Social Work, Peguero hadn’t envisioned herself building something of her own until the Fellowship reframed what was possible. Her placement with Inclusion Geeks, a DEI consulting firm, and the program’s innovation coaching pushed her to sharpen her ideas and rethink her impact. “It really helped me shift gears and think differently about the kind of impact I want to have,” she says.
Now in her second year of the MSW program, Peguero is committed to bringing innovation into social work practice to tackle long-standing issues like homelessness, poverty, and racism.
