Luis Alvarez-Hernandez, PhD, an assistant professor at Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW), will explore the complexities of “coming out” for Latine communities at a virtual presentation hosted by BU’s LGTBTQIA+ Center for Faculty & Staff.

His talk, “Coming Out and Pushing Forward: Learning From LGBTQIA+ Latines,” is part of the center’s LGBTQIA+ Scholar Series which spotlights topical research and scholarship from BU faculty.

Prof. Alvarez-Hernandez will discuss the realities of coming out as an LGTBQIA+ Latine in the current political climate, including the hostility and violence faced by many individuals. He will also explore the ways that the LGTBQIA+ community care for one another and engage in liberation efforts using examples from his research with LGTBQIA+ Latine community leaders.
