What is your work experience?

I’ve worked in different areas of healthcare but I have been with New England Donor Services for 5 1/5 years in Hospital Development. My organization is the first organ bank in the country, and my role focuses on communication between the organ bank and the hospital, as well as developing educational programs. I communicate daily with nurse directors, attending ICU medical directors, program managers, and residents in various programs to coordinate the process of the organ bank being in place to offer organ donation to families once hospitals have exhausted all medical options for patients at end of life. April is Donate Life Month so we take this time to appreciate our donor families and provide extra professional and public education together.

Why did you choose BU’s Online MPH program?

After researching several hybrid and in-person programs, I decided on BU’s Online MPH program. The asynchronous nature of the program, plus the focus on Health Equity, are the most significant reasons this program is right for me.

What have you enjoyed the most so far about the program?

I thought I would not meet my classmates, but there have been several opportunities to collaborate socially over Zoom and in weekly optional class lectures. I have enjoyed learning about the motivations for my cohort members to enroll and that this connection will increase as time goes on.

How do you structure your week when it comes to both coursework and your current role?

I am fortunate to work Monday through Friday, so I spend more time doing classwork on weekends. I also review what I understood or not each week to evaluate if I could have prepared more successfully or changed my approach a bit. I’ve also gotten noise-blocking headphones, so I focus on the task, whether working or studying.

What advice do you have for students considering an Online MPH program?

Look at the modules that will be covered and if these will move your goals forward. I’m happy that I took the time to research many programs and found this specific program.

What do you plan to do once you’ve graduated?

I hope to be eligible for leadership positions at my current organization.
