What is the most rewarding part of your role as program manager in the SPH Graduate Student Life office?
“Many students will stop by my office every week because they know it is a safe space where they can talk about their experiences inside and outside of the classroom. Students call me from work when they pass that test, but also when their baby sister is born, and I really value those connections.”
Why are public health writing skills so important?
“Wherever you are in the public health pipeline, you need to be able to communicate at every stage. Whether you’re studying community health sciences or biostatistics, you still have to report and communicate your findings. Being able to write is a great skill set for anyone to have.”
Why did you choose to attend BU School of Public Health?
“BUSPH was the most challenging but the most rewarding academic experience I’ve ever had. There is such a high level of critical analysis and thoughtfulness that is required of you because you are an active contributor to the health of the public. I decided to pursue the Health Communications and Promotions MPH certificate because I believe that important and accurate information should be available and accessible so people can make informed decisions that work for them. In the end, I walked away with an expanded world view and elevated ways of thinking critically about problems and solutions that can be applied to any public health issue we face—and that has been invaluable.”
