Jim Feeney Headshot.jpgJames Feeney (’08), an SPH alumnus and a course facilitator in the BU Health Communication program, has been appointed as the assistant town manager of Arlington, Massachusetts.

Feeney was previously the town’s acting director of health and human services. He was selected from a pool of 72 applicants.

Feeney earned a master’s in public health focusing on epidemiology, and currently facilitates the Health Communication course The Biology of Disease. He is also an alumnus of the SPH-based Local Public Health Institute of MA.

Feeney says his background provided a strong foundation for his work in Arlington. “It’s like public health in that management involves a multidisciplinary approach to problem-solving, it takes the engagement of various stakeholders to be successful, and you have to do that in a proactive fashion,” he says.

“I feel my public health training and my work with the Local Public Health Institute helped prepare me to be a good municipal employee and manager.”
