Student Receives 2025 Pulitzer Center Reporting Fellowship

Field Service and Community Tour Days – Faculty & Staff Welcome to Participate!

The Office of Student Services and the Practice Office have organized Community Tours and Field Service Days as a way to connect new students with their new community. Tours and volunteer opportunities are scheduled for Tuesday, August 27 and Friday, August 30.

In an effort to make this more of a school-wide event, we’d also like to invite any interested faculty and staff to participate!

Below is a listing of the sites, locations, and times. Please email brendan2@bu.edu if you are interested in volunteering, or register here.

 

Pine Street Inn Recovery Softball Game

Date: Friday, 8/30

Description: Founded in 1969, Pine Street Inn is the largest resource for homeless men and women in New England. Participate in a softball game with clients in the recovery program. If you have any softball equipment please bring it.

Location:Shattuck Hospital Grounds, 170 Morton St. Jamaica Plain MA 02130

Time: 12pm-2:30pm

 

Greater Boston Food Bank

Date: Tuesday, 8/27

Description: Volunteers will inspect, sort and pack donated grocery products that are then distributed to hunger relief agencies. Volunteers work together as a team on an assembly line, and may be working alongside other groups. Some volunteers load boxes onto conveyer belts, other volunteers inspect products, others sort products, and others check and label boxes.

Location: 70 South Bay Avenue in Roxbury/Boston near the South Bay Shopping Center

Time: 1pm-3:30pm

 

Hale House

Date: Friday, 8/30

Description: Hale House provides private rooms, meals, and 24-hour care to 56 elderly men and women regardless of their ability to pay. Includes a tour of the center in Boston’s Back Bay, and a game of bingo with residents.

Location: 273 Clarendon Street Boston MA 02116

Time: 9:15am-12pm

 

Women’s Lunch Place

Date: Friday, 8/30

Description: Women’s Lunch Place provides a safe, comfortable daytime shelter, nutritious food and services for women and children who are homeless or poor. Help the chef prepare and serve meals to the clientele.

Location: 67 Newbury St Boston, MA 02116

Times: 7am-11am, and 11am-3pm
