Ideas and Events Sought for International Education Week, Nov. 12-16.

BU Global Programs is coordinating a university-wide celebration of International Education Week 2012, and welcomes your ideas and participation to make it a success.

International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative of the U.S. Departments of State and Education. It was first held in 2000 and today is celebrated in more than 100 countries worldwide.

This year IEW is the week of November 12-16, but events taking place during the weekends before and after will also be included.

IEW is an opportunity to celebrate BU’s myriad global dimensions as well as the benefits of international education and related experiences, broadly defined –from study abroad and global internships to research tackling global issues to international perspectives on our Boston campus, both in and out of the classroom.

We welcome you to join us in one or more of the following ways:

  • Propose and host one or more IEW event, which can be an entirely new event or a regularly scheduled event with an international focus; please see the Event Ideas page for inspiration)
  • Identify potential external speakers, filmmakers, artists to participate
  • Help enlist students, faculty and staff to plan and participate in events
  • Offer funding and/or space for IEW events
  • Spread the word about IEW events to your colleagues and students (including informal conversations, disseminating calendars/flyers, posting information and links on your website, etc.)

We hope that IEW will generate enthusiasm, broaden horizons, spark new dialogues, and encourage new ideas among all members of the University community.

If you would like your event to be included in the IEW calendar, please submit your information to Global Programs online before October 19.

To offer other ideas or support, please contact Global Programs at global@bu.edu.
