Cancer and the LGBT Community: Unique Perspectives from Risk to Survivorship by Ulrike Boehmer.

Please join us for a reception to celebrate the release of Ulrike Boehmer’s new book. This is the first book ever written on cancer in LGBT communities. It offers an in-depth look at the most up-to-date research in this field. The book adopts a social-cultural perspective where the person’s identity and position in society are determinants of health that are as important as biological and behavioral factors.

Dr. Ulrike Boehmer is an associate professor, social & behavioral sciences at Boston University School of Public Health. Her research program is guided by a focus on understanding and eliminating health disparities, particularly within cancer survivorship. Central to Dr. Boehmer’s work is her research on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) health and cancer prevention and control. Some of her work focused on overcoming the absence of sexual orientation and gender identity data in the context of cancer surveillance and she continues to focus on understanding cancer survivorship of LGBT populations.
