Dear Colleagues,

As part of our commitment to continuous learning in the evolving public health landscape, I am pleased to announce two SPH Dean’s Task Forces on Practice and Education. These will provide advice to me as we explore how to re-imagine these key aspects of public health and SPH as we innovate and respond to market trends.

Dean’s Task Force on Practice
Chair: Carlos Rodríguez-Díaz
Objectives:

  • Review the current practice portfolio and make recommendations for exciting new initiatives: this will include answering the key question: how can the practice office support and catalyze practice opportunities for all faculty, staff, and students at SPH? The task force will review the office of the associate dean, practice functions housed in other offices, education offerings, and other practice efforts at SPH for their quality, impact, and utility in differentiating our program from our peers.
  • Review the Activist Lab and identify strategies to strengthen its quality, content and impact, aligned with student preferences, market trends and future societal needs.

Dean’s Task Force on Education
Co-Chairs: Maria Glymour and Jon Levy
Objectives:

  • Review the current MPH structure, including core courses, certificates, and other programmatic elements with an eye toward their continuing utility and ability to attract students and differentiate our program from our peers. Review how to avoid administrative inefficiency, consolidate redundancies, while strengthening program coherence within a 42-credit structure.
  • Recommend changes in policies or processes that would allow the school to improve the curriculum by eliminating redundancy, replacing outdated content, and eliminating/replacing courses with low enrollment or lack of alignment with programmatic priorities.

I extend my gratitude to Professors Rodríguez-Díaz, Glymour, and Levy for their leadership in this foundational work, and I thank all the members of both task forces for their hard work and service to SPH. The task forces will conduct their work through the early summer, and I encourage those with questions to please reach out to them directly.

Warmly,

AH
