Spring 2025 Registration Advising
First-Year Students (Class of 2028)
For your second term, you will register for:
- A Kilachand First-Year Seminar of your choice (4 units)
- A section of Kilachand Writing Studio II: KHC ST 112 (2 units)*
Spring Kilachand courses will be viewable in the MyBU Student portal. For easier reference, you may find course lists here:
We advise you to select a seminar in an area of interest that is different from your major and, if possible, one which will fulfill BU Hub requirements you may not gain elsewhere. Please keep in mind that over the course of your undergraduate experience, you may fulfill more than the minimum number of requirements in any Hub area.
Kilachand courses complement your major, minor, and elective courses to form your unique pathway through the Hub. Please review any Hub planners provided by your major department, as well as the Kilachand & The BU Hub planner, prior to your advising meetings and registration.
*If you are taking WR 111 or WR 112 this fall, you will take Kilachand Writing Studio I and II in the next academic year (fall 2025 and spring 2026). Please review your individual plan with your Kilachand academic advisor.
All first-year students should become familiar with Kilachand Program Requirements and complete the related affirmation.
Sophomores (Class of 2027)
Second-year Kilachand students may choose to fulfill the Kilachand Global Challenges program requirement by enrolling in the following course this spring:
KHC HC 302: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Global Challenges II (4 units)
- Topic: Forced Displacement
- Hub areas: Social Inquiry II, Global Citizenship and Intercultural Literacy, Teamwork/Collaboration
As a reminder, Kilachand students may take either KHC HC 301 (offered fall term) or KHC HC 302 (offered spring term) to meet the Global Challenges program requirement, but may benefit from taking both courses for academic interest or the Hub. While most Kilachand students take their Global Challenges course(s) in the second year, you may take HC 301 and/or HC 302 in the third year if preferable within your long-term plan. Please keep your Kilachand academic advisor informed of your course choices.
Also open to sophomore students is:
KHC HC 401: Epistemologies and the Process of Inquiry (4 units)
- Topic: Quantum Worlds: Science or Science Fiction?
- Hub areas: Quantitative Reasoning II, Research and Information Literacy, Teamwork/Collaboration
Important: KHC HC 401 requirement change proposal
A Kilachand curriculum change which came out of our collective strategic planning efforts has been proposed to Boston University’s General Education Committee. This change would mean that KHC HC 401 would be removed from the KHC curriculum. KHC HC 401 will be offered this spring, however, given some of you have an interest in the topic or have planned to take it due to Hub requirements. For additional details about this change, look out for email updates from Director Holt.
As you choose your KHC courses, note that second-year students may not enroll in KHC HC 451 or 500-level Kilachand coursework.
Juniors (Class of 2026)
Third-year Kilachand students may enroll in the following courses this spring:
KHC HC 451: Keystone Proposal Workshop (2 units)
- Pre-requisite: 3.0 cumulative GPA
The Keystone Proposal Workshop is a junior-year requirement for students pursuing their Keystone Project through the internal Kilachand pathway (most students) or major department capstones. It is also strongly recommended for those pursuing application-based major department pathways (CAS Honors, COM Production III, SAR Thesis for Distinction); if you are not admitted to your major department’s honors course (it happens!) or if your research/creative project plans change unexpectedly, you will be unable to complete a Keystone Project (and therefore, Kilachand) without having taken KHC HC 451 in the junior year. Read more about the available Keystone Project Pathways here. Students in the College of Engineering or the Questrom Honors Program do not take HC 451.
Note that KHC HC 451 can only be taken in the junior year, and can only be taken on campus.
KHC HC 401: Epistemologies and the Process of Inquiry (4 units)
- Topic: Quantum Worlds: Science or Science Fiction?
- Hub areas: Quantitative Reasoning II, Research and Information Literacy, Teamwork/Collaboration

As you choose your KHC courses, note that third-year students may not enroll in 500-level Kilachand coursework.
Seniors (Class of 2025)
Seniors will complete the People in Process sequence by registering for one of the following this spring. The courses feature similar content, but incorporate assessments reflective of the associated Hub. Students may not enroll in more than one HC 5×2 course.
KHC HC 502: Choice & Change – Writing Intensive (2 units)
KHC HC 512: Choice & Change – Oral/Signed Communication (2 units)
KHC HC 522: Choice & Change – Digital/Multimedia Expression (2 units)
Choice and Change continues the exploration of a particular individual, but turns its attention to lesser known and often unrecognized people who have fashioned meaningful lives and achieved significant impact. The course also provides an opportunity for research, reflection, and expression.

If you are completing your Keystone Project through Kilachand’s internal pathway (most students), then you will also register for:
KHC HC 504: Keystone Independent Study II (2 units)
Please be sure to register for the section with your Keystone advisor’s name listed within the MyBU Student portal.
Students who are completing their Keystone Project through departmental pathways should register for the relevant courses required by their departments.
Priority Registration
Please check your MyBU Student record well in advance of registration to confirm that you have a Kilachand Plan listed on your undergraduate program record. If your Kilachand Plan is missing, notify your Kilachand academic advisor.
Kilachand priority registration opens 30 minutes ahead of the earliest published start time for your class year. Your registration date and time depends on your MyBU Student Enrollment Appointment Level designation (your “Student Group”) and will be reflected in your Enrollment Menu > Enrollment Dates. If your Enrollment Date does not reflect your Kilachand priority registration time, contact your Kilachand academic advisor.
Enrollment Appointment Level: Fourth Year (RU4) – Sunday, November 3 @ 8:30 AM
Enrollment Appointment Level: Third Year (RU3) – Sunday, November 10 @ 8:30 AM
Enrollment Appointment Level: Second Year (RU2) – Sunday, November 10 @ 12:30 PM
Enrollment Appointment Level: First Year (RU1) – Sunday, November 17 @ 8:30 AM

KHC & The BU Hub
Kilachand courses complement your major, minor, and elective courses to form your unique pathway through the BU Hub. Please review any Hub planners provided by your major department, as well as the Kilachand & The BU Hub planner, prior to your advising meetings and registration. Your Kilachand advisor is happy to help you interpret our planner and review your Hub progress with you.
The BU Hub requirements chart and Hub area key are helpful resources.
Hub cocurricular experiences (different from KHC co-curricular events) are another way you can fulfill Hub requirements.
Related Policies & Resources
To maintain small classes, balanced enrollment across sections, and fair teaching loads, we do not over-enroll KHC courses (i.e., adding above the course capacity). Exceptions might be made for students with unavoidable schedule challenges or seniors with degree needs that impact graduation. Requests for exceptions to the over-enrollment policy must be discussed with your Kilachand academic advisor. Please note that KHC courses do not have waitlists within MyBU Student.
Kilachand courses cannot be audited or taken Pass/Fail.
Students seeking accommodations or modifications due to disability should work with Disability & Access Services to determine eligibility.
BU tuition covers 20 units (credits) for Kilachand students. You do not need to request approval to overload to 20 units, however you should know that it is a significant academic commitment. You should speak with an academic advisor before enrolling in more than 16 units (or 18 units for first-year students). If you believe it is academically necessary for you to enroll in more than 20 units, please contact your Kilachand advisor.
Kilachand Advising Appointments
Your Kilachand academic advisor is happy to meet with you in person or via Zoom to discuss your Kilachand course choices. We can also address your concerns by email in advance of registration.
Please remember that meeting with us does not replace meeting with your advisor at your home school or college; you should follow all instructions you receive from them regarding registration. If you’re unsure who your other academic advisors are, consult your MyBU Student dashboard or your Academics Menu > Advisor Information. Kilachand academic advisors cannot release MyBU Student holds; please follow-up with your major department.
During registration advising we do not hold drop-in hours. Instead, we ask that you make an appointment with your advisor to ensure that we are able to see everyone during this busy time.
Make an appointment:
Please watch your email in October for a message from your Kilachand academic advisor with their appointment booking link. If you do not have a Kilachand advisor listed in your MyBU Student, please email honors@bu.edu. If you did not receive an email from your advisor in October, you may reach out directly:
