Become a Student Leader
Kilachand Honors College strives to engage students inside and outside of the classroom. We encourage students to become Peer Mentors, Kilachand Ambassadors, and members of KLAB. Kilachand Honors College student groups give Kilachand students the opportunity to engage with peers and administrators in Kilachand, hold leadership positions, and represent Kilachand outside of the College.

Kilachand Leadership Advisory Board
The Kilachand Leadership Advisory Board (KLAB) is an initiative that was developed in the spring of 2017 to facilitate communication between Kilachand administration and students. Led by Professor Preston, the group is composed of three elected representatives from each class. KLAB is responsible for voicing the suggestions of Kilachand students, planning activities or community events each semester, generating new and fresh ideas for the college, and responding to policy and curricular changes.
To join KLAB, students are nominated and elected by their peers. The Kilachand community holds KLAB elections each winter. Nominations are due at the end of the fall semester and voting takes place when the spring semester begins. Each class year is represented by three students in that class, earning their seat through ranked-choice voting.
Kilachand Peer Mentor Program
The Kilachand Peer Mentors help first-year Kilachand students navigate their college experience, areas of academic interest and the Kilachand curriculum. All first-year Kilachand students are assigned a student mentor, ideally in their major or area of academic intrest. The mentors are a valuable resource as Kilachand first-year students begin their academic careers at Boston University. This is a unique opportunity for students to share their experiences, and campus resources with their mentees. These relationships will serve as a foundation for the Kilachand community.
2022 Peer Mentor Applications will be posted in the spring
Kilachand Ambassadors Information
Kilachand Ambassadors are our official student representatives and hosts. With poise and alacrity, Ambassadors share their enthusiasm for Kilachand and Boston University with prospective and admitted students and their families. Ambassadors connect with prospective students through email and social media, and most importantly, during Kilachand events. As liaisons between Kilachand Honors College and visitors, Ambassadors are fundamental to Kilachand’s recruitment efforts and community. Please note that as in-person visit programming is currently suspended due to health and safety protocols, Kilachand Ambassadors will engage with visitors virtually during the fall 2020 semester.
Kilachand Ambassadors Team Leader
The Kilachand Ambassadors Team Leader is a veteran Ambassador (has experienced at least one spring Open House cycle) who enthusiastically undertakes a leadership role during spring recruitment initiatives and Open House events. The Team Leader assists the Ambassador Supervisor with Open House Trainings and leads the organization and facilitation of Open House Lunch room tours. The Team Leader will also oversee postcard-writing efforts, and help plan our year-end Ambassador Appreciation. Friendly, confident, and an excellent listener, the Team Leader hears suggestions from fellow Ambassadors and brings new ideas to the table. As such, the Team Leader is an exemplary Ambassador who serves as a role model for new and veteran Ambassadors alike.
The Kilachand Ambassador term is one academic year: fall, spring, and summer (where available). Sophomores, juniors, and seniors in good standing are eligible to apply. The 2020-21 application period is now closed.
