The BU Hub & Kilachand

What is the BU Hub?

The BU Hub is Boston University’s general education program. The Hub gives Boston University students the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind that will enable them to be lifelong learners and leaders in a rapidly evolving global community. It reflects Boston University’s mission to educate students who are reflective, resourceful individuals ready to live, adapt, and lead in an interconnected world.

All undergraduate students, regardless of the academic program in which they are enrolled, are required to develop six essential capacities and earn 26 BU Hub units in six areas, typically within 10-12 courses, to graduate from Boston University.

The Hub is integrated into the entire undergraduate experience. BU Hub requirements are flexible and can be satisfied in many different ways, through coursework in the major, and BU Hub cocurricular experiences.

How the BU Hub works with Kilachand

Kilachand is one of three BU Hub pathways at Boston University and students will satisfy a majority of their BU Hub units through the Kilachand curriculum. Remaining BU Hub units can be satisfied from a wide range of available courses within and outside the major, BU Hub co-curricular experiences, and AP credit.

All Kilachand courses carry BU Hub units. The Kilachand curriculum is also incredibly flexible, and students may make choices within the Kilachand curriculum to complement the Hub units they earn through their schools, colleges, and majors.
