I was born and raised in Washington, DC to a social worker and journalists. My mother moved to the United States from El Salvador when she was my age, 27 years, with my aunt, uncles and grandma to escape political violence. She met my father who was covering the Salvadoran Civil War for a newspaper. I was raised across multiple ethnicities, religious traditions and languages. I moved to Providence, Rhode Island to pursue higher education in Public Policy. I proudly identify as a person in recovery from co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders, and a survivor of child abuse. In my free time, I like to read poetry, play soccer and discuss TV shows with my wife and step-son.
