Former Wheelock College graduate students that did not transition to Boston University prior to June 1, 2018 may petition for reconsideration to transition.
Who is eligible to petition?
Most former Wheelock graduate students that did not finish their degree program may attempt to return to their graduate program at Boston University. The following students are not eligible to petition:
- Students that were not formally enrolled in a graduate degree program (e.g. non-degree students);
- Former Wheelock College undergraduates (note: there is a separate petition process for former Wheelock undergraduate students; for more information please email Suzanne Kennedy, Senior Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs at apunder@bu.edu);
- Former Wheelock 4+1/dual-degree students unless they left Wheelock as a registered graduate student
How do I petition?
Please send a letter via email (apgrad@bu.edu) to Daniel Kleinman, Associate Provost for Graduate Affairs. Letters should include information that you feel is pertinent to your petition for reconsideration. The committee will normally render a decision via email within four to six weeks.
What is the timeline for petitioning? Is there a deadline?
The committee will hear petitions for reconsideration on a case-by-case basis. Though graduate student readmission/reapplication requests normally go to a specific school or college at BU, a University committee will review all requests for a one-year period.
Beginning on June 1, 2019, all requests to return to Boston University will be handled via normal processes within each school and college (School of Social Work, Wheelock College of Education & Human Development, and Questrom School of Business).
Who will review the petitions, and how will a decision be made?
A University committee will review all petitions until June 1, 2019. The committee will review the formal petition, the student’s Wheelock College transcript, and the Wheelock College student record (if available). The committee may consult with faculty and staff in the student’s proposed home college (SSW, Questrom, Wheelock), and may seek additional information as needed.
Will I receive the Wheelock tuition adjustment grant?
Each petition is different; as such, the availability of the Wheelock tuition adjustment will be on a case-by-case basis.
What if my petition for reconsideration is declined?
You may apply to any of Boston University’s graduate programs as a regular applicant. Past coursework at Wheelock will be subject to the school or college’s existing transfer credit policies.
