Online MSW Experience

A BU School of Social Work education, right where you are

We are proud to be among the first fully online social work graduate programs nationwide, expanding the reach of our renowned social work education across the country. Our students benefit from Boston University’s innovative approach to a collaborative and rich online education experience. Our Online Program mirrors the on-campus curriculum and all courses are taught by BU School of Social Work faculty.

“Live Classroom”—A Community of Learners

Among the latest web-based technology tools, the Live Classroom platform brings you a highly interactive experience — a key aspect of every course in our Online Program. In addition to course content that includes online lectures, videos, interactive animations, discussion boards, electronic portfolios, and more, the Live Classroom experience allows instructors and students to engage in weekly virtual classes that feature dynamic discussions and the opportunity to engage with your classmates via peer groups, dyads, and group projects.

Beyond the Classroom

Students develop both formal and informal networks of support throughout their time in the Online Program. Outside of coursework, our online students participate in the Online Student Community Center as well as connect virtually to on-campus events.

Student Support

BU School of Social Work is home to a committed team providing academic and programmatic support throughout your academic experience. In your first semester, you will be assigned a student services administrator (SSA) who will support you in reaching your academic and professional goals. All online students participate in group advising sessions and an ongoing interactive professional development seminar, which provide an extended orientation and introduction to the Online Program, and prepare you for your field experience, job search, and beyond.

Boston University’s team is committed to providing a comprehensive, user-friendly experience for all of our online students throughout your time in the Online Program.
