Communicating advances

“As a future public health professional, I wanted to study at the nerve center of public health. I need to be knowledgeable on a broad range of public health issues, so SPH was clearly the place to be. I can explore an extraordinary range of environmental health research here. How do we effectively communicate the truth about the latest scientific advances and counteract the stories that mislead people about facts crucial to their health? That’s another key question I’m pursuing here at SPH.”

Expanding possibilities

“Many schools want PhD students to pursue a narrow avenue of research. SPH is one of the rare schools that allows you to explore many different research areas—even work with more than one faculty advisor. The School recognizes that in public health, it’s important to be able to reach across disciplines, and I do that every day.”

Building community

“As PhD students, it’s easy to get stuck in your own bubble. We’re all so invested in our research. I belong to a wonderful doctoral student organization that unites all PhD students across SPH. We lend support to one another, share resources, and try ideas on for size. Just as important, it’s a chance to relax and enjoy the company of people who share similar ideals—and similar challenges.”
