Biography

Dr. Mary Slavin is the Director of Education and Dissemination at the Health & Disability Research Institute (HDR). She is a physical therapist with more than 30 years of experience in the rehabilitation field, serving as a clinician, educator and researcher. Dr. Slavin's interests include promoting evidence-based practice in rehabilitation and use of appropriate measures to assess rehabilitation outcomes. Dr. Slavin a co-investigator on several funded studies and co-directs the Dissemination core for the Center on Health Services Training and Research and the Boston-Harvard Burn Injury Model Systems Program. During her career in rehabilitation, Dr. Slavin has led efforts to promote evidence-based practice in rehabilitation and is co-author of the Evidence-Based Practice in Rehabilitation chapter in DeLisa's Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation: Principles and Practice. Dr. Slavin’s research is primarily focused on developing and evaluating rehabilitation outcome measures, including the Activity Measure for Post Acute Care (AM-PAC), Spinal Cord Functional Index, Cerebral Palsy Profile (CP-PRO), Pediatric Spinal Cord Injury Activity Measure (PEDI-SCI AM), and the Life Impact Burn Injury Recovery Evaluation (LIBRE) Profile.
