D. Keith McInnes, ScD, MS

Biography

Keith McInnes conducts research on access to and engagement in health care services for hard to reach, vulnerable populations. Current BU School of Public Health projects include assessing the use of mobile technology to increase chronic disease self-management for persons experiencing homelessness. He has taught a course on the impact of health information technologies on health systems. In addition to his BU School of Public Health appointment, he is a Research Health Scientist in the Center for Healthcare Organization and Implementation Research (CHOIR) at the Bedford, Massachusetts VA Medical Center. He is the PI for a Department of Veterans Affairs Post-Incarceration Engagement project that is evaluating the effectiveness of peer support on physical and behavioral health outcomes for Veterans who have recently been released from incarceration. Other research interests include health informatics, homelessness, and patient self-management of chronic diseases with emphasis on HIV and hepatitis C. Dr. McInnes is Co-Principal Investigator and Implementation Science Coordinator for the VA's Bridging the Care Continuum QUERI Program which is focused on improving access to, and engagement in, care for vulnerable populations including persons who have a co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder, were formerly incarcerated, or are homeless. He also leads a study examining the quality of care for Veterans who are homeless and have hepatitis C. He is a member of the VA’s national My HealtheVet Performance Evaluation Committee and of CHOIR’s Recovery Research Coordinating Committee. Dr. McInnes was the recipient of a Packer Policy Fellowship at the University of Sydney, Australia and was a VA Career Development Awardee.
