  • On January 31, SPH community members participate in the 38th annual Boston Homeless Census, which aims to quantify the number of people living on the street, in shelters, or in living situations other than permanent housing.

  • On March 14, more than 300 Medical Campus students, faculty, and staff walked out of their classes and offices to demonstrate solidarity with the victims of gun violence in Parkland, Florida.

  • On March 28, SPH hosted journalists, educators, and administrators the Dean’s Symposium, "Teaching Public Health," to address the shifting landscape of academic public health.

  • The SPH Student Senate and Graduate Student Life hosted the Seventh Annual SPH Talent Show on April 6.

  • On May 19, hundreds of friends and family gathered to honor this year’s SPH graduates.

  • Karen DeSalvo, former acting assistant secretary for health and national coordinator for health information technology at the US Department of Health and Human Services, delivered the 2018 Convocation Address.

  • Faculty and staff gathered on June 1, National Gun Violence Awareness Day, to #WearOrange and join the fight to end gun violence in America.

  • SPH hosted multiple Think. Teach. Do. receptions in 2018, including ones held in conjunction with the WHO World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, in May and the annual APHA meeting in November.

  • The School of Public Health welcomed its new students with a week of orientation activities held August 28-31.

  • Ahead of the November 6 midterm elections, Activist Lab staff and volunteers helped members of the SPH and general community register to vote.

  • The SPH community celebrated with cider, candy apples, and other autumn treats on October 17 following the two-day CEPH accreditation site visit.

  • During the annual BUSPH Stories event on October 19, students shared personal experiences through spoken word and poetry, reflecting on what public health meant to them.

  • On November 1, more than 350 community members, public health leaders, students, alumni, and friends gathered at the Mandarin Oriental, Boston, as part of the For the Future of Public Health Gala.

  • The day before the midterms, staff and students created posters in support of the #Yeson3 campaign to uphold protections of transgender people in Massachusetts.

  • SPH won first place in the booth competition at the APHA Annual Meeting and Expo in San Diego, held November 10-14.

  • The International Students Organization held its annual Cultural Show on November 30. Proceeds benefited children suffering from malnutrition in Venezuela.

  • Students celebrate the completion of their graduate program during the December Graduate Reception on December 3.

  • On December 12, Santa delivered presents and hugs at the annual holiday party for children and their families at Ruth Barkley Apartments in the South End, organized by the Students of Color for Public Health and the Activist Lab.
