The Massachusetts Network of Women Leaders in Higher Education (MNNWL) has named Lisa Sullivan, associate dean of education at Boston University School of Public Health, as the reciepient of the group’s 2013 Leadership Award.

The award recognizes women at any stage of their career who exhibit leadership in mentoring, promoting, and encouraging women in the field of higher education in Massachusetts. The award will be given at the group’s annual President’s dinner on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Brandeis University in Waltham.

In a nominating letter submitted by a committee of colleagues, Sullivan was described as “constantly engaged in advancing women at BUSPH” by “actively seeking out opportunities for colleagues, and making ongoing suggestions for opportunities to take.” Colleagues cited her willingness and skill in writing award nominations for others, prasing her for “understanding the role that teaching awards play for her faculty members.”

Letter writers also recognized Sullivan’s role in providing guidance and support for her team. “She is dedicated to mentoring the women that she manages and encourages her mentees to pursue every professional opportunity that will help them to meet their career goals, even if it will make her work more challenging.”

The MNNWL is affiliated with the American Council on Education’s (ACE) Inclusive Excellence Group and the American Council on Education’s Women’s Network. For more than 25 years, ACE’s Office of Women in Higher Education has provided information and counsel to constituencies within the higher education community regarding policies, issues, education, and research that influence women’s equity, diversity, and advancement.
