Faculty Senate Announces Changes for 2011-2012 Term.
New leaders and additional memebers now serving for the upcoming year
The BUSPH Faculty Senate has elected Mike McClean, associate professor of environmental health, as Chair of the Faculty Senate for a one-year term starting in January 2012. Vicky Parker, associate professor of health policy and management, was elected to serve as Vice Chair, and Jennifer Schlezinger, associate professor of environmental health, was re-elected to her position as Vice Chair.
The Faculty Senate Chair and Vice Chairs are responsible for ensuring that the interests and concerns of the faculty are known and formally represented throughout the School’s policy-making process. The Chair of the Faculty Senate serves on both the Management Committee and Governing Council, along with one of the Senate’s two Vice Chairs.
In the last year, the Faculty Senate has worked on important issues such as a survey of faculty development needs, the development of the new BUSPH Faculty Sabbatical Policy, the Non-Continuance Policy, and the Reduced-Time Faculty Engagement Policy.
The Faculty Senate would like to recognize the contributions of those who completed their terms in December 2011: Gene Declercq, professor of community health sciences; Rich Feeley, associate professor of international health; Bruce Larson, associate professor of international health; David Ozonoff, professor of environmental health; Winnie Roche, associate professor of health law; Lora Sabin, associate professor of international health; and Janice Weinberg, professor of biostatistics. In addition, the Senate would like to recognize Vicky Parker, who completed a year-long term as Senate Chair in January 2012, as well as Lora Sabin, who completed 4 years as Vice Chair.
Lastly, the Senate welcomed 7 new members in December 2011: Jennifer Beard, assistant professor of international health; Les Boden, professor of environmental health; Susie Foster, professor of international health; Chris Gill, associate professor of international health; Leonard Glantz, professor of health law; Lisa Messersmith, associate professor of international health; and Laura White, associate professor of biostatistics.
