Difficult Dialogues: Discussions of Race, Class and Health in the Classroom
Georgia Simpson May, MDPH and Eric Hardt, MD, Geriatrics Division, BMC co-facilitators
December 7, 2012, 12:30-2:00 PM in the Founders’ Room
The mission of SPH is “to improve the health of local, national and international populations, particularly the disadvantaged, underserved and vulnerable, through excellence and innovation in education, research and service”. As we prepare students to meet the challenges of reducing disparities and promote equity, we need to help our students understand the many ways in which power, privilege, race, and class affect our work as public health professionals. In this session we will reprise a long running series of discussions designed to help create effective and productive classroom environments that encourage and promote these difficult discussions. In this workshop participants will have the opportunity to rethink and to extend a dialogue on critical concepts related to racial differences and disparities in the community and in the classroom.
Please RSVP to rschadt@bu.edu to reserve your seat.
