Dear colleagues,

We hope that everyone had a lovely break and is looking forward to the new semester. I am writing today with a few updates about SPH’s Talking Circles.

The School, thanks to our Office of Graduate Student Life, has been hosting Social Justice Talking Circles for almost six years. These have been spaces for faculty, staff, and students to hold discussions about social justice in an informal, unstructured, and safe environment. These conversations create a space to share our views, listen to others, and think critically on different subjects.

Going into the new year, I will lead these discussions, which we are broadening to be called “Talking Circles.” These convenings may cover a variety of topics including social justice, public health, current events, and more. We recognize that 2024 may be a tumultuous year, and it is important to us that our community has a shared space to talk to one another, offer support, and hold difficult conversations.

We invite all members of the SPH community to join us in these conversations during the semester, and as added encouragement, we will provide lunch or dinner, depending on timing. We hope to see you there!

The Spring 2024 dates for the Talking Circles are listed below and on the SPH Calendar:

  • Tuesday, February 6, 2024, 9 – 10 AM
  • Monday, March 5, 2024, 9 – 10 AM
  • Wednesday, April 10, 2024, 5 – 6 PM
  • Tuesday, May 7, 2024, 1 – 2 PM
