Requirements to be Completed Each Term
To relay important University-related information efficiently and quickly, we must have accurate faculty contact information on file in our database. Please be sure to update your details with us each semester.
- Teaching Assignment Letters will be emailed to your BU email address. Please sign these and return them to the MET Dean’s office (1010 Commonwealth Avenue, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02215) as soon as possible. We must have these on file for payroll purposes.
- Syllabi must be emailed as soon as it is completed, even if this is a rough draft version to be edited throughout the semester. We keep copies of syllabi in our office for future reference.
- Confirm Your Email Address & Contact Information along with your syllabus. This is our main form of communication with professors. To ensure that you receive important updates and information throughout the semester, we must have accurate information on file. Your current mailing address and phone number should also be provided to have on file. Please use your BU email for communication with students.

Attendance Indicator & Verification
Attendance Indicator
Several weeks into the semester, you will receive an Attendance Indicator, which is a list of students who have not settled their accounts with the University. Please review this list and respond to the MET Dean’s office promptly by email or phone (617-353-3000) to indicate whether or not these students have attended your class. Do not send your response by regular mail, as this takes too long.
Internal Attendance Verification
You may receive an email at some point during the semester (or after the end of the semester) inquiring about the attendance record of a specific student in your class. This is an internal process regarding a student who has taken a Metropolitan College class but is contesting the tuition payment. It is important to respond to this promptly and accurately with a numeric value of how many classes the student attended, if at all.

Final Exams
It is the faculty members’ responsibility to check the Link and note the scheduling information for their finals. Should you notice any discrepancies or issues with your exam time, have special requests, group exams, or require additional technology for your exam, please contact the MET Dean’s office as soon as possible. In most cases, additional AV media (such as projectors) can be requested through Classroom Support Services and do not require a room change. A request does not guarantee that a change has been made, though every effort will be made to resolve any issues.Any requests for exam changes made three weeks after the final exam schedule is posted will not be honored
For any questions regarding final exams, please contact the MET Dean’s office by phone at 617-353-3000 or email.

Missed Classes
While we discourage the cancellation of classes by instructors we understand that unforeseen events do occur. In the event that an instructor is not able to teach a class during the semester, the following three items must be done:
- Both the department chair and the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs must be notified
- Students need to be notified in a timely manner
- The class will need to be made up
To schedule a make-up class, please contact the Academic Services office at 617-353-3000 or metacad@bu.edu.

Part-Time Faculty Flex Space Policy
The Flex Space is intended for part-time faculty. It is not available for reservation. If it is not in use, other faculty and staff may use the space, but must vacate the space immediately for part-time faculty. Please respect others when sharing the space, as it is intended to be a quiet work area.
Teaching Studio Reservation Policy
- Teaching Studios are primarily for academic classes during the semester. Normal class times will be blocked by the Office of the Dean on the calendar during the semester.
- Teaching Studios can be reserved for non-course use if it does not conflict with academic classes. The request must be submitted at least three business days in advance via the MET-IT reservation form. It is important to let MET-IT know of technology requirements to provide the best possible learning/teaching environment.
- Teaching Studio non-course use is prioritized for the following: classes, student/teacher activities, marketing and recruiting, special MET events, large (30 or more participants) meetings/gatherings, or meetings that fully utilize/require the technology in the room.
- Faculty or staff must be present for the entire time a Teaching Studio is in use. Faculty are responsible for the proper use of the technology in these rooms and for the safety of students while in the building. Students should not be left alone in the teaching studios after hours without the supervision of a faculty or staff member.
- Limits and exceptions to extended room use are:
- Maximum reservation: three hours per session and two days per week.
- Exceptions: Special events that have both the support of the Department Head and approval by the Office of the Dean.
