MechE Affiliations

Many faculty in MechE have affiliations with the Division of Materials Science and Engineering and the Division of Systems Engineering, with closely overlapping research interests. Faculty from the department are also affiliated with other cross-disciplinary centers across Boston University.

At the top of that list is the Photonics Center, where faculty whose research uses light can have lab and office space. The Photonics Center also has a number of shared facilities, from an Optoelectronics Processing Lab to precision imaging (SEMs and TEMs) and patterning (focused ion beam) equipment. We have close interactions with BU nano, where researchers who work at the nanoscale share students and technologies.

With arrival of Prof. Brian Walsh and the excitement surrounding the BU Cube Satellite activity, we are increasing our efforts in Space Technologies, working closely with the Center for Space Physics.

Last, but not least, we are actively engaged with the BU Arts Initiative, which sponsored an exchange where a student photographer spent time in a fluid dynamics lab and a MechE grad student visited an art class.
