Class of 2026 Academic Advising Roadmap
Organization and proper planning are critical to your success in college. The calendar checklist below is designed to help you meet the Four Advising Learning Goals. In addition to the specific monthly action items listed, students should do two things regularly: Check your BU email daily and visit your Class of 2026 page for important, timely information.
January: Get Connected!
Actions
- Attend Matriculation and the first group advising meeting on Wednesday, January 18
- Classes Begin on Thursday, January 19
- Connect with your academic advisor. To schedule an appointment, use AdvisorTrac
- Introduce yourself to your professors during their office hours
- Familiarize yourself with important BU resources:
- Familiarize yourself with important BU policies:
- The BU Academic Conduct Code
- If applicable, review Disability & Access Services Accommodation Policy
- If applicable, review and finalize process for gap semester transfer credit
Advising Assignments
- Activate your profile on Handshake to explore career events, internships/jobs, and more. Handshake is BU’s online hub for career resources.
- Sign up and attend an Academic Skills Workshop to learn effective study skills strategies
Deadlines / Dates
- Last day to add a class: Wednesday, February 1
February: Exploring BU’s Majors and Resources, Start Preparing for Fall Registration
Actions
- Finish familiarizing yourself with the important BU resources and policies (listed in January)
- Become familiar with Degree Advice. Degree Advice is an advising tool that monitors degree completion and supports degree planning.
- Check for any action items on the Class Page to prepare for the Boston-London or Boston-New England Semester.
Advising Assignments
- Make a mandatory individual registration advising appointment with your academic advisor by Friday, April 1. Use AdvisorTrac to schedule.
- For this meeting, review the academic pathways to a Boston University degree.
Deadlines / Dates
- Last day to add a class: Wednesday, February 1
- Last day to drop a class without a “W”: Thursday, February 23
March: Prepare for Fall Registration
Actions
- Attend an Exploring Majors at BU info session
- Check for any action items on the Class Page to prepare for the Boston-London or Boston-New England Semester.
Advising Assignments
- If you haven’t done so already, make a mandatory individual registration advising appointment by Friday, March 31 with your academic advisor, using AdvisorTrac
- After meeting with your academic advisor, use the MyBU Student Portal Planner to organize your classes in preparation for registration in April (Date TBD).
Deadlines / Dates
- Last day to drop a class with a “W”: Friday, March 31
April: Register for Fall Semester Courses
Actions
- Finalize your fall 2023 schedule on the MyBU Student Portal Planner
- Check for any action items on the Class Page to prepare for the Boston-London or Boston-New England Semester.
Advising Assignments
- Register for fall 2022 classes (Date TBD)
Deadlines / Dates
- Last day to drop a class with a “W”: Friday, March 31
- Last day to officially take a leave of absence or withdraw from the University: Wednesday, April 12
May: First Semester Wrap-Up
Actions
- Confirm your fall 2023 schedule (e.g., appropriate elective for pathway, no time conflicts, registered in all components of the class)
- Check final grades
- Check for any action items on the Class Page to prepare for the Boston-London or Boston-New England Semester.
