Jacob Bor 400x241Jacob Bor, assistant professor of global health, has been selected as the 2018 recipient of the Early Stage Investigator Lecture at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Disease Prevention. Bor will deliver the lecture at the Office of Disease Prevention in Bethesda, Maryland, on March 19.

The award recognizes early-career prevention scientists who have completed a terminal degree no more than 10 years ago and have not received a substantial NIH-supported research project, but have already made substantial research contributions to their respective field and are poised to become leaders in prevention research.

Bor is being honored for his work across health economics, epidemiology, data science, and demography, as well as his leadership in evaluating interventions to prevent HIV transmission from within the health system and in other sectors, including education and social welfare.

“I have tremendous respect for the work of past awardees, so it’s a great honor to be selected by NIH for this lecture,” Bor says. “Recognition by the Office of Disease Prevention is particularly meaningful given how central prevention is to our goals in public health.”

The Office of Disease Prevention is the lead office at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) responsible for assessing, facilitating, and stimulating research in disease prevention and health promotion, and disseminating the results of this research to improve public health.
