Lauren Wise, an associate professor in the SPH Department of Epidemiology, was elected to serve as vice-chair for the Fibroids Special Interest Group (FSIG) of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).

The ASRM FSIG was created in 2008 to stimulate, support, and promote education, research, and knowledge in the field of fibroid development, growth, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and treatment. Wise will assume her new post in late October after the conclusion of the ASRM Annual Meeting in Hawaii, and will serve one year as vice chair, then one year as chair, then a year as past chair.

Wise joined the Department of Epidemiology in 2004 after completing her ScD degree at the Harvard School of Public Health. She has an interest in reproductive epidemiology. Her research has involved the study of benign gynecologic conditions and delayed conception in women. Wise is co-investigator of the Black Women’s Health Study, a nationwide prospective cohort study of 59,000 African-American women. She is principal investigator of NIH-funded studies investigating environmental and genetic determinants of uterine fibroids and endometrial cancer in African-American women. She is also principal investigator of Boston University Pregnancy Study Online (PRESTO), an Internet-based prospective study of time-to-pregnancy (http://presto.bu.edu).
