Goodwill Not Landfill – Through Move Out
Did you know that donating your gently used belongings promotes your wellbeing? It supports your environmental, social and mental wellbeing.
Since 2009, BU students have saved several hundred tons of materials from landfills and incinerators by donating to Goodwill during move out.
Student Wellbeing is excited to partner with BU Sustainability, Residence Life, Facilities Management and Operations and Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries to offer Goodwill Not Landfill through move out.
Learn more about donation locations and accepted items.
There are multiple donation bins at Goodwill, Not Landfill. These bins help separate items out and make it easier to donate and recycle during move-out.

- BU Food Pantry Drop-Off: Non-perishable, unopened food items will be collected at all major residence halls. Learn more about what to donate. All of these items will be donated to the BU Food Pantry.
- Textile Recycling: Ripped, dirty, stained clothing, all bedding & blankets, pillows. There will be a separate bin at every donation location for you to recycle dirty, stained, and ripped items.
- Mattress Pads & Toppers: We can take foam and fabric mattress pads for recycling.

April 25: Esplanade Clean Up
In observance of #EarthDay365 and Global Days of Service, join us for the 27th Annual Charles River Cleanup on Saturday, April 25, from 10 am to 12 pm!
Boston University students, faculty, staff and alumni will gather along the Charles River Esplanade near Warren Towers and the Questrom School of Business to remove trash and debris, preserving this iconic historical landmark. This event isn't just about making a positive impact on our local community; it's also an opportunity to connect with fellow Terriers who share a passion for volunteerism, sustainability, and service. It sounds simple, but you’ll have a great time chatting with others, enjoying nature and taking in some amazing views.
The Esplanade Association will provide gloves and all the tools we need to remove trash and debris from the section of the Esplanade adjacent to our campus. So bring yourself, a water bottle and all the Earth Day vibes!
You will be notified via email of the 10 am meeting spot!
Learn about the rich history of the Charles River, once known as Quinobequin, and the contributions of its indigenous stewards, including the Massachusett, Wampanoag, and Pawtucket peoples who lived in what would become known as Boston and Cambridge by their colonizers.
