Laura F. Orlando, MPA

Adjunct Assistant Professor, Environmental Health - Boston University School of Public Health

Biography

Laura Orlando is a civil engineer, the executive director of RILES, and an adjunct assistant professor of environmental health at the Boston University School of Public Health. She has 30+ years of international experience working on the design and management of sustainable systems in the built environment, with a special focus on community-engaged water and sanitation projects. Her work includes research on toxic substances in municipal water and sewer systems and their exposure pathways; including technological, economic, political, and cultural influences. Laura has served as a trustee on several boards of directors. She is currently a trustee and steering committee member of the EcoHealth Network and the president of the board of the Higher Synthesis Foundation. She is also on the editorial board of Rural America In These Times.

Interests: public health, ecological restoration, ecological infrastructure, sustainable sanitation, community development, history of technology, and urban environmental history.
