Faculty Development Opportunity: Professional Development and Data Systems Workshop.

Students, faculty, postdocs, research staff, and other colleagues may be be interested in an intensive data-use workshop in the Washington D.C. area in late July 2013.

The workshop is aimed at Hispanic/Latino health disparities, but should be applicable for anyone interested in broader research in racial/ethnic health disparities. National experts will also provide career and professional development mentoring for students, new professionals, and early-career faculty.

Co-sponsored by National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Hispanic-Serving Health Professions Schools (HSHPS) by a grant from the Office of Minority Health intended to help students and new professionals to learn to use national datasets for research and networking with scholars and Federal agency researchers using these datasets.

Are you interested in performing analytical studies of national health datasets to better contribute to Hispanic health care research? Are you planning to pursue a doctoral degree? Are you a current doctoral student, post doctoral student, or junior faculty member?

If “YES” to any of the above, join the Health Serving Health Professions Schools (HSHPS)* in collaboration with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on July 25-26, 2013 in Bethesda, MD with funding in part through a grant to HSHPS from the Office of Minority Health for the Professional Development and Data Systems Workshop!

*Hispanic-Serving Health Professions Schools (HSHPS) is a 501(c)3 member based non-profit organization established in 1996 as part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ “Hispanic Agenda for Action” initiative, with the intention of addressing the mounting public health issue of providing quality and culturally competent healthcare to Hispanics living in the United States. www.hshps.org

Workshop Summary:

On July 25-26, we will be conducting a Professional Development and Data Systems Workshop in Bethesda, MD in collaboration with the NIH.The workshop is aimed to help prepare scholars interested in Hispanic health research strengthen their skills and knowledge to perform analytical studies of national and state health datasets to better contribute to Hispanic health care research and provision of adequate health care to Hispanics and other underserved populations.
