2026 L. Adrienne Cupples Award Ceremony.

The Cupples Award committee has completed its review of the nominations for the 2026 Cupples Award. This year, there were six nominations from outstanding scholars. We are pleased to announce that the winner for 2026 is Dr. Debashis Ghosh (University of Colorado School of Public Health). Debashis Ghosh, Ph.D. Professor Department of Biostatistics and Informatics Colorado School of Public Health University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Abstract: With artificial intelligence entering virtually every sphere of society, it raises a slew of challenges, issues and opportunities, and understanding the role of statisticians in this disruption. We will discuss various facets of AI and describe potential ways in which statistical viewpoints can advance knowledge and understanding in this area. In addition, we will describe approaches to incorporating AI tools in training students. Bio: Debashis Ghosh is Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. He previously served as Chair for 10 years. He was previously a faculty member at Penn State University and the University of Michigan. His research interests are in machine learning methods, causal inference and their application to a wide variety of problems in biostatistics and bioinformatics. His domain areas of applications have included cancer, pediatric autoimmune diseases and more recently, healthy aging. He has over 300 publications in the scientific and statistical literature and has received many recognitions for his work, including awards/fellowships from Harvard School of Public Health, the American Public Health Association, the American Statistical Association, and Institute of Mathematical Statistics.
