BUSPH Qualitative Methods Seminar: Postpartum Depression Screenings at Well-Child Visits: Perspectives from Community Health Center.

  • Starts: 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 29, 2026
  • Ends: 1:50 pm on Thursday, January 29, 2026
Kerrin Gallagher, current HSPR PhD student, will present on "Postpartum Depression Screenings at Well-Child Visits: Perspectives from Community Health Center".

Postpartum depression (PPD) affects 1 in 8 childbearing people in the US, and screening is a highly effective solution that can aid practitioners in identifying PPD symptoms. National guidelines now recommend PPD screening at both maternal postpartum and well-child visits; the American Academy of Pediatrics endorses PPD screening at well-child visits, and Medicaid incentivizes it nationally and in Massachusetts. We interviewed key informants from community health centers in Massachusetts to better understand barriers and facilitators to screening for PPD during well-child visits, as well as linkage to behavioral health care. We will discuss logistics for recruiting within community health centers, methods, and our initial results.
