Dear Colleagues,
I hope your fall season is off to a great start.
As you are aware, due to the financial challenges at the University and School, we were unable to make reward payments this summer for faculty performance in calendar year 2024. Dean Hyder has requested a review of the existing Faculty Incentive Program to determine the best approach moving forward, ensuring that faculty continue to share in the savings generated through their overperformance. Any potential changes to policies will follow our standard protocol, which includes review by the Faculty Senate and approval by the Governing Council.
In July, we proceeded with the annual deposit of discretionary funds. As noted in the SPH Faculty Handbook, faculty members who are at least half-time and had a discretionary account balance of less than $25,000 received a deposit of $2,000 to their individual discretionary account.
As a reminder, faculty discretionary funds can be used by the faculty member without prior approval, provided they are used in accordance with the policy outlined in the Faculty Handbook. Department administrators and central finance review all expenses to ensure compliance. We are pleased to make these School resources available to faculty to support their research, teaching, and service activities, or to invest in their own professional growth and development.
Additionally, we will be holding a Faculty Promotion Information Session (October 24, 1-2 pm via Zoom) and a session on Building and Managing Research Teams (November 19, 12-2 pm via Zoom). Faculty have found these sessions to be very helpful, and we will amplify their availability in the coming weeks.
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Best,
Mike
